FREQUENT CONCERNS/MYTHS ABOUT SPAY/NEUTER

-

It will make my pet fat!
Spay and Neutering does not make your pet fat, lack of exercise and too much food are responsible for that.

-

It will change my pet's personality, he will no longer be a "man".
Spaying and Neutering does not change your pet's identity or personality, pets reproduce from instinct and will live more relaxed and happier lives when sterilized.

-

The surgery is too stressful.
Spaying and Neutering is less stressful than having litter after litter of puppies or kittens.

-

My pet is too young or too old.
We will sterilize as young as two months as long as they weigh two pounds.  If your pet is over 6 years old we require blood work to ensure your pet is healthy enough to undergo anesthesia.

THE CHALLENGE

Half of the pets taken to American animal shelters get euthanized (killed). In fact, 6-8 million dogs and cats are euthanized every year, due to lack of homes to adopt them.

The consequeces of strays can be staggering: One unspayed cat and her offspring can produce 420,000 kittens in seven years and one unspayed dog and her offspring can produce 67,000 puppies in six years. There simply are not enough homes to adopt them all.

But it's not just the animals who suffer due to out failure to spay and neuter. Capturing, impounding and eventual euthanasia cost taxpayers and private agencies millions of dollars each year. The failure to spay and neuter is costing us all.

HOW TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Help spay or neuter animals in your neighborhood.  Extend your compassion beyond the scope of your own household and help ensure the spaying and neutering of other unaltered animals in your neighborhood.  Talk to owners of unaltered pets to educate them about why it's so important to spay and neuter.  If possible, team up with neighbors and make it a joint effort.
